I recently embarked on a project to improve the lighting in our closets, and I’m thrilled with how it turned out! The challenge was to address the lack of adequate lighting in three closets, each with unique issues. After some research, I decided to go with the Onforu 33ft LED Strip Light, 5000K Daylight, which provided the perfect balance of brightness and color temperature.
For the first-floor closet, I used a door contact sensor to trigger one of the Zooz double outlets, ensuring the lights turn on when the door opens and off when it closes. In the basement closet, where space was limited, I opted for an Iris motion sensor. This setup not only activates the lights when someone enters but also turns them off automatically after a minute, saving energy without compromising convenience.
The installation process was surprisingly straightforward, thanks to Hubitat’s intuitive rule setup. The LED strips were easily mounted around the door frames, and the color consistency was impressive despite the different angles in the photos. I’m particularly pleased with how the lighting enhances the overall functionality of these spaces.
If you’re considering similar upgrades, I’d highly recommend exploring smart lighting solutions combined with motion or contact sensors. It’s a fantastic way to enhance everyday convenience while keeping energy usage in check. Here’s to smarter, brighter closets! ![]()
