Transforming Dumb Appliances with Smart Tech

Smart home technology is truly amazing, isn’t it? One of the things I love most is how it can turn even the simplest devices into something extraordinary. Take my old heater, for example—it’s just a basic appliance with no smart features. But with a bit of creativity and the right tools, I managed to integrate it into my smart home setup. I wanted to control my heater without manually pressing its buttons, so I decided to solder a couple of wires to its button contacts and connect them to an Evolve LFM-20 relay module. The goal was to create a macro that would trigger specific sequences at set times. For instance, every morning at 6:00 AM, the heater turns on briefly, and at 7:00 AM, it goes through a series of presses to adjust the settings. The challenge was finding the right app to handle such macros. After some research, I discovered that SmartThings and Automate are great options, but I needed something more flexible. I ended up using a combination of these apps and some custom coding to achieve the desired functionality. This project was a fun way to explore the capabilities of smart home tech. It not only made my life easier but also showed how innovative solutions can bring old devices back to life. If you’re looking to upgrade your home without replacing everything, I highly recommend giving this a try! :rocket:
