Hey everyone! I’m on the verge of making the switch from Vera to Home Assistant, and I’m really excited about all the possibilities this opens up. After years with Vera, I’ve come to appreciate its reliability, but I’m ready for something more customizable and resource-efficient.
I currently have a mini PC running Ubuntu with PiHole set up as my network’s DNS server. It’s been a solid setup, but I’m curious if I can seamlessly integrate Home Assistant into this environment. I’ve heard that HA can be installed like any other package, but I’m wondering about potential conflicts with my existing web environment (lighttpd) or port usage. Would it be better to set up HA on a separate machine, or can I optimize my current setup to accommodate both?
I’ve read through some guides, but I’m still a bit unsure about the best approach. Any tips or experiences from those who’ve successfully integrated HA into a Linux/Ubuntu environment with PiHole would be invaluable! I’d love to hear about your setups, challenges, and how you’ve maximized your resources.
Looking forward to your insights and advice! Let’s make this transition as smooth as possible. ![]()
