Hello everyone! I wanted to share my recent experience transitioning from Wink to Home Assistant (HA). While the $5/month cost wasn’t a huge deal-breaker for me, the recent outage was the final push I needed to make the switch. Moving my Zigbee devices was straightforward, but the Leviton Z-Wave switches posed a bit of a challenge. Since the Wink service is down, I couldn’t exclude these devices from the Wink hub. I decided to rebuild the Z-Wave mesh and had a few questions along the way:
- Do I need to factory reset all the switches before adding them to HA? I assumed this was necessary, but I wanted to confirm.
- When I factory reset, will the switches reconnect with the Wink hub instead of HA? Based on past experience, I didn’t think so, but it was worth double-checking.
After some research and trial and error, I found that a factory reset was indeed necessary. It was a bit nerve-wracking, but the process went smoothly once I figured it out. The key takeaway was ensuring each switch was properly included in HA after the reset. I also discovered some handy resources in the community that helped me troubleshoot along the way.
For anyone considering a similar transition, I’d recommend starting with a small setup to test the waters. It’s also worth exploring the community forums for tips and tricks. The support here has been invaluable, and I’m excited to continue expanding my HA setup!
If anyone has additional insights or experiences to share, I’d love to hear them. Happy automating!
