I’ve been trying to set up an automation in my smart home system, but it just doesn’t seem to work as expected. I’ve tried two different configurations, but neither one is triggering the desired action. Here’s what I’ve done so far:
First Attempt: Timer-Based Automation
- Trigger: The device turns on.
- Condition: None specified.
- Action: Turn off after 5 minutes.
Second Attempt: State-Based Automation
- Trigger: The switch changes to ‘on’.
- Condition: None specified.
- Action: Turn off after 5 minutes.
Both setups are supposed to turn off the kitchen ceiling light after 5 minutes, but it’s not happening. I’ve double-checked the device IDs and entity IDs to make sure everything is correctly referenced. I’m wondering if there’s something I’m missing in the configuration or if there’s a known issue with this type of automation.
On a different note, I’ve been really impressed with how my smart home system handles location-based automations. For example, when I come home, it automatically switches off the SmartThings Home Monitor and sets the status to ‘Home’. It’s seamless and reliable, which makes me even more frustrated that the kitchen light automation isn’t working. I’d love to hear from others who have successfully set up similar automations or who might have encountered the same issue.
If anyone has tips or suggestions, I’d be really grateful! Let’s troubleshoot this together and maybe help others who are facing similar challenges. ![]()
