Hey everyone, I just wanted to share my experience and see if anyone else has encountered a similar issue. I’ve been using SmartThings for a while now, and I’ve always loved how customizable it is. However, I’ve hit a bit of a snag with my contact sensor notifications, and I’m hoping someone can shed some light on the matter.
So, here’s the deal: I have this contact sensor that I use intermittently, and it worked perfectly when I first set it up. I installed a new battery, and everything seemed to be in order. The sensor shows its status in the SmartThings app without any issues. But here’s the catch—I want to receive a notification whenever the contact opens. I’ve tried setting this up through routines, selecting the contact sensor, and choosing to send a text message. Unfortunately, I’m not getting any notifications at all.
I’ve double-checked all my settings. Notifications are enabled in the iPhone settings, including sounds and badges. I even tried using a different phone to rule out any device-specific issues. When I successfully used this setup in the past, I didn’t get a text message per se, but there was definitely a notification of some kind. Now, nothing. It’s like the sensor is completely silent when it opens, which is frustrating because I’d love to know the status without constantly staring at my phone.
I’ve heard that sometimes these issues can be related to how the sensor is paired or how the notifications are configured. I’ve tried resetting the sensor and re-pairing it, but that didn’t help. I’ve also looked into third-party apps or services that might offer more flexibility, but I’d prefer to stick with SmartThings if possible.
If anyone has any tips or suggestions, I’d be incredibly grateful. Maybe there’s a setting I’m missing or a workaround that I haven’t considered. I’m not the only one who’s had this issue, so I’m hoping we can figure it out together. Let’s keep the conversation going and see if we can get those notifications working as they should! ![]()
