Troubleshooting Google Nest Camera Motion Detection with SmartThings
Hello everyone,
I’ve been really impressed with how seamlessly my Google Nest Cameras integrate with SmartThings. They’ve been a fantastic addition to my smart home setup, especially the motion detection feature which has been working flawlessly for years. However, recently I noticed that the motion detection events from my Nest Cameras aren’t being reported to SmartThings anymore. This is quite concerning because it disrupts my security routines, such as turning on lights when motion is detected.
To give some background, I’ve been using the Nest Cameras with the Nest app for quite some time. Everything worked smoothly until Google migrated the Nest Cameras to the Google Home app. Since then, while the cameras still function normally, SmartThings no longer receives any motion detection events. The timeline in SmartThings shows no activity, even when there’s clear motion in front of the camera. This issue persists across all my Nest Cameras.
I’ve tried several troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue:
- Checked Network Settings: Ensured that all cameras are on the same network and have stable connections.
- Firmware Updates: Verified that all cameras are running the latest firmware.
- Reconfiguration in SmartThings: Removed and re-added the cameras in the SmartThings app to see if that helps.
- Contacted Support: Reached out to both Google and SmartThings support, but haven’t received a definitive solution yet.
I’m wondering if others in the community have encountered similar issues and if there are any known workarounds or solutions. Has anyone successfully maintained motion detection functionality with Nest Cameras after the migration to the Google Home app? Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your help and support!
