Troubleshooting Shelly 2PM Roller Shade Control

Hello Shelly users! I recently encountered an interesting challenge with my Shelly 2PM and wanted to share my experience in case it helps others. I set up a Shelly 2PM to control a roller blind, and while the physical switch worked perfectly, I couldn’t get the app to control it. Frustrating, right? Every time I tried, I got an error message saying the device couldn’t be controlled. After some research and experimentation, here’s what I found:

  1. Firmware Check: Ensure your Shelly 2PM is running the latest firmware. Outdated firmware can cause unexpected issues. I updated mine and noticed some improvements, though the problem wasn’t fully resolved.

  2. Device Mode: Double-check the device mode settings in the Shelly app. I had it set to “cover,” which is correct for roller shades. However, I realized I hadn’t fully configured the position settings. Adjusting these helped with smoother operation.

  3. Switch Testing: Test the physical switch to ensure it’s working correctly. In my case, the switch was functioning, but there might have been a communication issue between the switch and the Shelly device.

  4. Reset and Reconfigure: As a last resort, I reset the Shelly 2PM and reconfigured it from scratch. This step might seem daunting, but it worked wonders for me. The device now responds perfectly to app commands.

If you’re facing similar issues, I recommend going through these steps. It’s a bit of a process, but persistence pays off! Let me know if you have any questions or if there’s another solution that worked for you. Happy automating!
