Troubleshooting Shelly Button 1 Installation: My Experience

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my experience with installing the Shelly Button 1. I’ve been exploring the world of smart home devices, and while most things have gone smoothly, the Shelly Button 1 installation was a bit of a puzzle for me. Hopefully, my journey can help someone else out there!

So, here’s the deal: I’ve had this Shelly Button 1 lying around for a while, and I decided it was time to give it a shot. I reset it as instructed, added it to my iOS app, and crossed my fingers. But instead of the smooth setup I was hoping for, the button just sat there with a ‘Pending connection’ status. It was frustrating to watch it blink slowly in blue, knowing it wasn’t connecting. I tried everything from checking the firmware to scanning for its IP address with ‘Advanced IP Scanner,’ but nothing seemed to work. After about 10 minutes, the status just turned to ‘N/A,’ and I was back to square one.

I remember using this button about a year ago, and it worked like a charm back then. So, what changed? I wondered if it was a firmware issue. But how could I update the firmware if the button wasn’t even connected? It was a catch-22 situation. I tried resetting it again, but nothing changed. The button started blinking red or bluish-red, and the status switched to ‘Device is offline.’

After some research, I stumbled upon a suggestion to try a different router or network. I wasn’t sure if that would help, but it was worth a shot. I switched networks, and voilà! The button connected almost instantly. It turns out, my primary network had some hidden restrictions that were blocking the Shelly Button. I couldn’t believe it. All this time, it wasn’t the button’s fault—it was my network!

Once connected, I updated the firmware through the app, and now the Shelly Button is working perfectly. It’s a relief to have it up and running again. This experience taught me the importance of checking network settings when dealing with connectivity issues. Sometimes, the solution is simpler than you think!

If anyone else is struggling with their Shelly Button, I’d recommend trying a different network or resetting the device to factory settings. And if all else fails, reach out to the community—there’s always someone willing to help. Happy tinkering!
