I’ve been having some trouble with my Wyze cameras disconnecting from my home network, especially after a power outage. It’s been frustrating because I rely on them for security and monitoring. I decided to do some research and share my findings with anyone else who might be experiencing similar issues.
First, I noticed that the problem often occurs when the camera’s SD card becomes full. Wyze cameras automatically record and store videos on the SD card, which can quickly fill up, especially with motion-activated recording. To prevent this, I’ve been manually deleting old footage, but it’s not the most efficient solution. I’d love to see a feature that automatically deletes older videos or offers cloud storage options to offload some of the data.
Another issue I encountered was the camera’s inability to reconnect after a power outage. I found that simply unplugging and replugging the camera didn’t always work. Instead, I had to reset the camera to factory settings and go through the pairing process again. This was time-consuming, but it did resolve the connectivity issue temporarily.
I also discovered that the Wyze app sometimes doesn’t show the option to delete files stored on the SD card. This is a bit confusing because the files are still present on the device. I ended up having to format the SD card entirely, which was a hassle but did free up space and allowed the camera to function properly again.
To avoid frequent disconnections, I’ve started monitoring the camera’s SD card usage more closely. I’ve also looked into setting up a secondary router to offload some of the network traffic, as I have many devices connected to my 2.4 GHz band. This might help reduce the strain on my main network and improve overall connectivity for all my smart devices.
If anyone else has tips or tricks for maintaining consistent connectivity with Wyze cameras, I’d love to hear them! It’s clear that while these cameras are affordable and user-friendly, there’s room for improvement in terms of reliability and storage management.
