Troubleshooting Z-Wave Device Inclusion Issues

Hello everyone, I wanted to share a solution to a common issue many of us might face when trying to include Z-Wave devices into our smart home setups. A while back, I encountered a problem where adding new Z-Wave devices would take an unusually long time and often fail. After some research and experimentation, I discovered that the issue was related to ‘abandoned’ devices in the system. Here’s how I resolved it:

  1. Identify Abandoned Devices: Navigate to the developer tools section of your hub’s interface (e.g., https://tools.developer.homey.app/). Look for any devices listed as ‘unknown nodes.’ These are devices that were not properly added or removed during previous inclusion attempts.

  2. Remove Abandoned Devices: For each ‘unknown node,’ click on the three dots on the right side of the entry. Select ‘test’ and wait for the system to respond. Once it indicates that the node is not responding, the ‘remove’ option will become available. Click on it to remove the device from the system.

  3. Repeat the Process: Continue this process for all ‘unknown nodes’ until none remain. It’s important to note that this does not affect any active devices in your setup.

  4. Attempt Inclusion Again: After clearing out the abandoned devices, try adding your new Z-Wave device again. The inclusion process should now proceed smoothly.

I hope this helps anyone struggling with similar issues. It’s a bit of a workaround, but it’s effective and keeps your Z-Wave network clean and functional. Happy automating! :rocket:
