Hi everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with expanding my Zigbee mesh network. I recently added a few more Lightify bulbs to my setup, hoping to enhance my smart home lighting system. However, after the expansion, I started noticing some unusual behavior in my logs—specifically, messages like ‘[Device Name] unreachable is 0’ and ‘[Device Name] unreachable is 1’. Additionally, I noticed that some of my lights were randomly turning on, especially in the middle of the night, which was quite unsettling for my family.
At first, I thought it might be a coincidence, but when the lights started flickering on their own, I knew I had to investigate further. I reached out to some forums and did a bit of research, and it seems like this issue isn’t entirely uncommon when expanding a Zigbee mesh. The problem often arises due to mesh instability, especially when adding new devices that might not be optimally placed for signal strength.
After some trial and error, I discovered that resetting the mesh and carefully repositioning the new bulbs helped stabilize the network. I also found that using a tool like the Zigbee2MQTT network analyzer was incredibly helpful in identifying weak points in my mesh. By doing this, I was able to ensure that all my devices were communicating effectively without causing unintended behavior.
I’d love to hear if anyone else has encountered similar issues and how they resolved them. It’s been a learning experience, but it’s also given me a deeper appreciation for how these networks function—and how crucial it is to maintain their stability!
