Hello everyone, I’m reaching out to seek some advice regarding my recent setup with ZWA-2 and ZBT-2 on a Raspberry Pi 5. I’ve been diving into the world of Home Assistant and decided to migrate from SmartThings, which has been a great learning experience so far! However, I’ve encountered a bit of a hiccup with my Z-Wave and Matter setup, and I’d love to hear if anyone else has faced similar issues or has some tips to share.
So, here’s the setup: I’ve got a ZWA-2 and a ZBT-2 connected to a powered USB 2.0 hub, which I purchased to avoid any potential interference issues with USB 3.0. The idea was to have both devices running smoothly off the same hub. At first glance, everything seemed to be working perfectly. I could see both integrations functioning correctly, and the devices were communicating as expected.
However, after a short period—anywhere from 1 hour to 24 hours—the Pi would lose connection with both devices. The telltale sign was the light on the USB hub turning off, and both integrations would fail. The only way to restore functionality was to unplug the Pi and reboot it. This issue has been recurring consistently, and it’s become a bit of a nuisance, especially as I’m eager to integrate more devices into my setup.
In an attempt to troubleshoot, I decided to test each device individually. Plugging in just the ZWA-2, I was pleasantly surprised to see it remain online for over four days without any issues. This made me think that perhaps the problem lies in running both devices off the same hub. Could there be an issue with power distribution or signal interference when both devices are connected simultaneously?
I’ve also considered the possibility of hardware incompatibility, but both devices are relatively new and should, in theory, work well together. I’m now at a point where I’m considering alternative solutions, such as using separate hubs for each device or exploring different USB configurations. However, I’d love to hear if anyone else has successfully run both ZWA-2 and ZBT-2 off a single powered hub without issues.
If anyone has any insights or recommendations, I’d be incredibly grateful. Whether it’s a suggested configuration, a troubleshooting step I might have missed, or even a workaround, your advice would be invaluable as I continue to build out my smart home ecosystem. Thanks in advance for your time and assistance!
