Hi everyone! I’ve been trying to figure out a way to automatically turn off my Christmas inflatable decoration when the wind speed gets too high. I have it plugged into a Z-Wave outlet connected to my SmartThings hub. The goal is to have it turn on at sunset if the wind speed is below 10 mph, and turn off if the wind speed exceeds 10 mph between sunset and 11 PM. At 11 PM, it should turn off regardless of the wind speed.
I’ve managed to set up the sunrise and sunset rules without any issues, and even got the wind speed integration working with IFTTT. However, the problem is that IFTTT doesn’t run frequently enough. Today, the decoration turned on even though the wind speed was 15 mph, which is definitely too high. I’m worried about potential damage if it continues like this.
I’ve heard that using a local weather API might provide more frequent updates, but I’m not sure how to integrate that with my current setup. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with handling wind speed thresholds for outdoor decorations? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
