Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent journey with the Tuya smoke detectors I purchased. I’ve always been interested in DIY home automation projects, so when I came across these detectors on AliExpress, I knew I had to give them a try. The price was unbeatable, and the specs looked promising, but I was aware that integrating them into my Home Assistant setup might be a bit of a challenge.
Initially, I was a bit disappointed when I realized that the official HA Tuya integration doesn’t support smoke detectors. But that didn’t stop me! I decided to dive into the world of firmware flashing. I’ve heard about tools like Tuya-Convert and Tasmota before, so I figured this would be a great opportunity to put them to use.
After some research, I found a detailed guide on how to flash the device using Tuya-Convert. It was a bit nerve-wracking, but the process went smoothly. I then installed Tasmota and configured it with the custom settings I needed. The journey wasn’t without its bumps—I had to try a few different GPIO pins before everything worked perfectly—but the satisfaction of seeing the device come online in HA was worth every moment of troubleshooting.
Now, my smoke detector is fully functional, and while it doesn’t report battery status automatically (a minor inconvenience), it’s reliable and does its job perfectly. I love how this project not only enhanced my home’s safety but also gave me a deeper understanding of how these devices work behind the scenes.
I wanted to give a huge shoutout to the amazing community here. Without the wealth of information and support available on forums like this, I wouldn’t have been able to pull this off. If anyone else is considering a similar project, don’t hesitate to ask for help—this community is incredible!
Happy tinkering, everyone! ![]()
