U200 Lite knob is stiff sometimes / does not open manually

In general the U200 Lite works great as long as I use it via the app or some sort of automation.
Unfortunately sometimes when you want to use a physical key from the outside or use the knob on the inside it is really stiff. You need to force it to move. The only way to circumvent this is actually turning it the other way and then move it the right way. Which seems to make it okay. This doesn’t always seem to work though.

The effect is that for other non digital savvy people, like my 9 year old boy, they can’t get the door open sometimes. Which makes the device unreliable in a dangerous situation. Say for examply there is a fire in the house and they want to quickly leave the house, but cant get the door open due stiffness of the knob…

It almost seems like the software/firmware is actively holding the lock in its place.

I’ve only found one other topic on reddit describing the same problem. Unfortunately without a solution.

I like the device in general, but this problem is a risky thing in dangerous situations.
Is there a solution to this problem?

@robbertvanderlee I completely understand your concern about the knob stiffness, especially when it comes to the safety of your family—this is definitely something that needs attention. Let’s go through some troubleshooting steps that might help resolve the issue based on common scenarios:

First, since the problem occurs with manual operation (physical key or inner knob), it could be related to installation alignment or mechanical interference. Check if the screws securing the lock are too tight, as this can restrict the latch from rotating smoothly; slightly loosening them might alleviate the stiffness. Also, verify if the lock’s installation position is misaligned, which can cause similar resistance.

Next, you can follow these steps to rule out internal interference: Open the battery cover and knob cover, remove the battery, then rotate the knob quickly to feel for jamming. If resistance persists, unscrew and remove the back panel to check if the connector cable is interfering with the cylinder tailpiece—excessive friction here can affect smooth operation. Additionally, ensure the tailpiece is centered in the deadbolt hole; repositioning the mounting plate if it’s off-center might help.

Don’t forget to update the U200 Lite’s firmware to the latest version via the Aqara Home app (navigate to the lock’s settings > firmware update), as software optimizations can sometimes resolve such issues.

Hi @robbertvanderlee… Maybe @KinseyCreateGoods can give us some ideas for a solution!

All of your suggestions already did come to mind which I’ve tried already. It is a new lock which works fine without the Aqara U200 on it. With the Aqara U200 device it works great as long as I use the app or any other automated way. It never gets stuck. Always turns smoothly. It only happens when using the knob manually or using a key from the outside.

The best way to describe it would be that the engine turning the actual key keeps it fixed in a certain position. Almost like it didn’t let go and you are trying to push through the engine’s pressure on the key. Just turning it the other way for a bit often seems to release the hold on it after which you can turn the key or knob in any direction.

@robbertvanderlee I appreciate you sharing these additional details—it really helps narrow down the issue! Since the problem specifically occurs during manual operation (key or knob) but works smoothly with app/automation, it might be related to the lock’s internal calibration or mechanical release mechanism.

First, let’s try re-calibrating the lock, as misalignment in the internal components could cause this “sticking” sensation. For Aqara Home app users, navigate to the U200 Lite in the app, select the “…” menu, and choose “Calibration”—you can try both “Automatic Calibration” and, if needed, “Manual Calibration” following the app prompts. This might help the lock’s motor release properly during manual use.

Another angle to check is the “Pull Spring Feature” in the Aqara Home app (under lock configuration). If this function is enabled, it might be applying residual tension that interferes with manual turning. Try disabling it, waiting a few seconds, then re-enabling it to reset the mechanism.

If these steps still don’t resolve the stiffness, it’s best to have the technical team take a closer look. Please contact the Aqara Home App Customer Service Team (Profile> Help & Feedback > Customer Service) or scan the QR code:

Are you talking about U200 or U200 lite?

U200 Lite. I do not have the keypad.

Alright! Because you wrote just U200 above
