New G5 Pro WiFI owner here trying to connect to my Amplifi Alien with limited success. Whenever I go through the setup steps of adding the device to my WiFi. it always failed on the final stage adding the SSID and password forcing me to reset the camera (cannot connect try again)
What I’ve tried so far…
Separating the 2.4 & 5ghz bands
Disabling band steering
Adding an additional SSID on either 2.4 or 5ghz
The only way I can get the camera to connect is to enable the Guest WiFi on the Alien which works but is on a separate vlan which is not ideal. It also uses a simple password.
I have a complex password with these characters +",!#* on the main SSID. Could that be the cause?
I also had problems connecting a second-hand G5 Pro Wi-Fi to my network. A network reset (holding the reset button for 10 seconds) didn’t help, but I was successful after performing a factory reset (pressing the reset button 10 times quickly).
My Wi-Fi password is also complex and contains many special characters. That shouldn’t be the problem.
Have you set up different types of encryption for the main and guest networks?
Can you tell me if internet access is available on both networks?
I should have also mentioned that when I was connected via Guest, I updated the G5 to the latest firmware to no avail before resetting and trying again.
Encryption is pretty basic on the Alien with WPA2 being the only obvious choice which is enabled for all SSIDs. Internet is also present.
DNS is using Cloudflare 1.1.1.2
Not sure what’s different about the Guest network, but will try adding the complex password to rule out that being the culprit as well.
Cloudflare DNS 1.1.1.2 blocks malware domains. Unfortunately, I’ve had some negative experiences with it. It also blocked subdomains such as ‘business’ across the board, which is pretty stupid. I’m not familiar with the addresses of Aqara’s cloud servers, but it’s possible that these will be blocked too.
So my WiFi router is set to WPA2/WPA3 and, as I said, has a long and complex password. It should actually work like this. I vaguely remember that there are problems with WPA2 if the password is longer than 63 characters. I’m not sure right now whether it was sometimes problematic even with 62 characters. Is there anything unusual about the SSID, such as special characters?
After further testing I have narrowed it down to the password. Setting the main SSID to a simple 8 character word connects where it wouldn’t before.
There must something in the current password that is stopping it.
Not sure where to go from here? I have over 40 devices working, the thought of changing the password just to get 1 device online seems pointless.
Is there anyone from Aqara who could help resolve this before I return it?
I’m running the same firmware version. The symbols #+*!_? definitely aren’t the problem. That just leaves ",|. My guess would be the quotation marks. Speaking as a developer, I know these can be tricky since they act as string delimiters and require escaping.
That would be my guess as well. I’ll eliminate them from the password and try again, but ultimately It would mean changing 40+ devices, many of them smart lights just to get this thing working. And I very much doubt Aqara are going to issue a firmware update to fix this issue for one user
Are there any Aqara personal on here who could weigh in?
