Understanding and Resolving Smart Bulb Behavior During Power Outages

As someone who has been exploring the world of smart home technology, I’ve encountered an interesting issue with my Wyze smart bulbs that I’d like to share and discuss with the community. Here’s my story:

I recently installed a Wyze switch to control four BR30 bulbs in my living room. While the setup has been mostly smooth, I’ve noticed an unusual behavior during power outages. Whenever the power resumes, all four bulbs turn on at full brightness, which is both unexpected and disruptive, especially if it happens late at night. This has happened twice now between 3:00 AM and 5:00 AM, and it’s quite startling!

I’ve observed that bulbs not controlled by the Wyze switch don’t exhibit this behavior, which makes me wonder if the issue is specific to the Wyze switch or the bulbs themselves. My initial thought is to replace the Wyze switch, but I’d prefer to understand the root cause before making any changes. Why does this happen?

Normally, if a bulb is powered off, it turns on in green and may resume its previous state after a power outage. However, in this case, they come on at full brightness, which is both inconvenient and energy inefficient. I’ve found that if I wait 2-5 minutes, they usually return to their previous state. This workaround isn’t ideal, but it’s the best solution I’ve found so far.

What’s the community’s take on this? Have others experienced similar issues with Wyze switches or bulbs? Is there a setting or configuration that can prevent this behavior? I’d love to hear if anyone has a more permanent fix or insight into why this is happening. Let’s discuss!

I’m hopeful that by sharing my experience, I can find a solution that keeps my smart home running smoothly without the late-night surprises. Thanks in advance for your thoughts and suggestions!
