Understanding Location Tracking Accuracy with HA-Companion

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my experience with the HA-Companion app and its location tracking feature. I’ve been using it to automate my smart home devices, like unlocking my front door when I get home. It’s been working pretty well most of the time, but I’ve noticed some inconsistencies.

For instance, the other day, the app detected me as being home even though I was actually about a kilometer away. This happened because the location tracking had a massive radius of 1400 meters, which is way larger than the usual 100 meters I set up. I found out about this through the app’s location data logs, which I stumbled upon while exploring the settings.

I’m curious if others have experienced similar issues or if there’s a way to adjust the tracking sensitivity or understand why such a large radius occurs occasionally. I also came across the ‘Significant Location Change’ feature in the app, which I’ve since turned off, but I’m not entirely sure how it affects the overall tracking accuracy.

If anyone has insights or tips on optimizing location tracking for more reliable home automation, I’d love to hear them! It’s such a cool feature, and I’d love to get it working seamlessly.
