Unexpected Blessing: Wyze Cam Saved My House from Collapse

I recently found myself in a situation that I never imagined I’d experience. I’m in the middle of a major remodel of my 1907 home in Salt Lake City, Utah. Digging out the basement is a pretty common project here, but what happened next was anything but ordinary. I had a Wyze Cam v3 set up outside my detached garage, pointing at my house, so I could keep an eye on things while I was away. Little did I know, it was about to capture something truly alarming.

On Saturday, my camera caught the original foundation of my house slipping, and almost the entire south side of my house collapsing. The moment was captured in real-time, and it’s both terrifying and surreal to watch. Here’s a glimpse of what happened:

And here’s what it looked like after the fact. My neighbor texted me this pic while I was out of town for Thanksgiving:

Needless to say, the south side of my house is now completely open, and my kitchen is flooded with natural light. It’s a strange mix of devastation and a newfound sense of space!

This experience has been a stark reminder of how valuable security cameras can be—not just for security, but for monitoring major home projects. The Wyze Cam v3 was a simple setup, but it ended up being a lifesaver in the most unexpected way. It’s crazy to think how different things could have been if I hadn’t had that camera installed.

I’m now more grateful than ever for the technology that helps us keep an eye on our homes, even when we’re not physically there. If you’re working on a remodel or have any ongoing projects, I’d highly recommend investing in a good security camera system. You never know when it might save the day—or your house!
