Unlocking Full Potential: My Journey with Aqara's New Sensors

So I recently leveled up my smart home setup and thought I’d share a bit of my journey. After using the OG sensors for a while, I finally took the plunge and tried out some of Aqara’s newer sensors—specifically the FP2 presence sensor and the T1 series.

I’m just a hobbyist, not a pro dev or anything, but I am a customization nerd and love fine-tuning automations.

First surprise: the FP2 is wild. It doesn’t just detect motion, it knows where you are in the room—and you can set up zones. I set up a scene where the light only turns on if I’m in the reading corner of my living room. Sounds minor, but it’s kinda magical in real life.

Second surprise: the High Precision Sensor (the gas & air quality one) is a total game changer. I didn’t think I’d care, but I’m now slightly obsessed with optimizing my CO2 levels and sleep quality. I even automated a window actuator to open when CO2 goes above 1200ppm…

The only hiccup? Pairing the new sensor to the hub was a bit finicky. Had to reset twice before it showed up in the app, but once it was in, smooth sailing.

Curious—anyone else using the FP2 or the new multisensors? What crazy automations have you cooked up?

Would love to swap ideas!

@MikeAtHome It sounds like you’ve had an exciting journey with your new Aqara sensors! Your experiences with the FP2 presence sensor and the T1 series are truly fascinating. The ability of the FP2 to detect not just motion but also your location within a room, and to set up specific zones, indeed adds a magical touch to home automation. Setting up a scene where the light turns on only when you’re in the reading corner is a great example of how these sensors can enhance everyday life.

Your story about the High Precision Sensor and how it has heightened your interest in optimizing CO2 levels and sleep quality is equally intriguing. Automating a window actuator to respond to CO2 levels is a smart move towards a healthier living environment.

Regarding the pairing hiccup, it’s good to hear that resetting eventually led to a smooth integration. These nuances are often part of the smart home adventure!

Thank you for sharing your insights and experiences. I’m sure many in the community would love to hear more about your creative automations. Let’s keep the conversation going and see what other exciting ideas and setups fellow users have come up with!
