Hey everyone, just wanted to share some cool stuff I’ve been doing with my Aqara door sensors lately. I’m kind of a smart home nerd and always tinkering, but honestly, I think a lot of folks (especially beginners) underestimate how much these little sensors can actually do.
Obvious use? Yeah, sure — basic open/close alerts. But here’s how I’m using them in slightly more interesting ways:
- Set one up on the fridge door. If it’s left open for more than 2 mins, my smart speaker yells at me (and believe me, it works).
- I have one stuck to my mailbox outside. When it opens, I get a message so I don’t have to keep checking if the mail came.
- Bedroom closet door triggers a soft light strip to turn on automatically at night — no more fumbling around in the dark.
- Bonus: Paired with a light sensor + time condition, my front door sensor now tells my Hub to welcome me home with lights and music — feels fancy but was stupid easy to set up.
I’m curious — what clever spots are you all placing your door sensors? I feel like there are so many creative uses out there I haven’t thought of yet.
