Hey folks,
Just wanted to share my experience after finally getting my Aqara devices to play really nice with HomeKit — and let me tell you, once it clicks, it feels like pure magic.
Picked up a Hub M2, a couple of door/window sensors, motion sensor, and the wireless mini switch. My goal? To have my lights, AC, and security all triggered automagically when I leave or return home. And after some frustrating missteps (why do things break when I‘m feeling confident lol), it’s all working buttery smooth now.
The trick for me? Making sure everything is added via the Aqara app first, firmware updated, then integrated with HomeKit. Once I did that, boom — everything showed up on my iPhone within seconds. Scenes, automations, even Siri commands — all just worked.
Favorite setup so far:
- When I unlock the door (via HomeKey), lights turn on based on time of day, AC kicks on if it’s too warm, and my desk lamp glows a soft blue late at night.
- Motion sensor in the hallway also tells my HomePod to say “Welcome home” if it’s after 6 PM and I had a rough day (using a Shortcut with a calendar event—I know, overkill, but it’s fun!).
Definitely curious — what’s your slickest Aqara + HomeKit trick? Any cool setups I should try?
Let’s swap tips!
@HubHacker It sounds like you’ve had quite the adventure with your Aqara and HomeKit integration, and it’s fantastic to hear that everything is now running smoothly! Your setup with the Hub M2, door/window sensors, motion sensor, and wireless mini switch seems both practical and magical, especially with the automations you’ve described. It’s these personal touches, like the HomePod greeting you or the desk lamp glowing a soft blue, that truly make a smart home feel like home.
Your experience highlights a crucial tip for others: ensuring devices are added via the Aqara app and firmware updates are complete before integrating with HomeKit. This step-by-step approach is often the key to a seamless experience.
As for slick setups, one popular trick is using the Aqara Motion Sensors to trigger different scenes based on the time of day or specific conditions, such as adjusting lighting and temperature settings when movement is detected in the morning versus at night. You might also enjoy experimenting with the Aqara Temperature and Humidity Sensor to create automations that adjust your home’s environment based on real-time data.
