I’ve been hesitant to upgrade my Vera system from UI5 to UI7 for quite some time, mainly due to past negative experiences and concerns about compatibility. However, after purchasing a new Z-Wave Plus device that required UI7 for optimal functionality, I decided it was time to take the plunge. The upgrade process was surprisingly smooth. I started by backing up my configuration, which I highly recommend doing before any major system changes. The upgrade itself took about 10-15 minutes, and after a quick restart, my system was up and running on UI7. The interface looked modern and user-friendly, which was a pleasant surprise.Restoring my backup was equally seamless. All my devices and settings were back in place, and most of my automations worked right away. However, I did notice that some of my scenes needed a bit of tweaking. It turns out that in UI7, you need to explicitly set the mode (like Home, Away, etc.) for each scene for them to trigger properly. Once I made those adjustments, everything ran like clockwork. One thing I particularly appreciate about UI7 is the improved device management and the ability to easily customize scenes and routines. The new interface makes it much simpler to visualize and manage my smart home setup. I also noticed a significant performance improvement compared to UI5, which was a bit sluggish at times. If you’re on the fence about upgrading, I’d say give it a try. The benefits of UI7 definitely outweigh the initial learning curve. Just remember to back up your settings and take your time adjusting any scenes that might not work as expected after the upgrade. Happy upgrading!
