Upgrading Home Intercom System with Smart Tablet Mounts

Hi everyone, I’m in the process of planning a smart home upgrade for a house we recently purchased. The house already has a 10-year-old M&S intercom and music system, which has served us well but feels a bit outdated. I’ve been brainstorming ways to modernize this system using home automation, but an exciting idea struck me: replacing the existing intercom units with tablet wall mounts that can serve multiple purposes around the house.

The thought is to use something like the LaunchPort Wall Station, which offers wireless charging and mounting capabilities for tablets. This setup would allow us to have a tablet in each room, acting as a communication hub, media player, or even a smart home control center. However, I’m curious if anyone has experience with such a setup, especially regarding the wiring. The current system uses 4-conductor 22-gauge wiring, and I’m wondering if it’s feasible to repurpose this existing infrastructure to power the new tablet mounts.

I’m also considering the practicality of this approach—would the tablets be able to handle the intercom functionality effectively? Are there any potential issues with signal interference or power supply that I should be aware of? I’d love to hear from anyone who has attempted a similar project or has insights into integrating tablets into a home intercom system. Your experiences and advice would be invaluable as I move forward with this upgrade!
