Upgrading My Boiler for Smart Control
Hi everyone! I wanted to share my recent project of upgrading my Ideal Independent C24 boiler to work with OpenTherm. It was a bit of a challenge, but I managed to get it working perfectly!
I started by researching the compatibility of my boiler with OpenTherm. The manufacturer confirmed that it’s compatible, but they mentioned I only needed an OpenTherm harness kit. However, I discovered that I also needed a weather compensation kit. This kit provided the necessary cables and components to connect everything properly.
The installation process was straightforward once I had all the right parts. I connected the OpenTherm harness to the boiler and set up the Tado app to control it. The key was ensuring that all the cables were properly connected and that the outdoor sensor was correctly placed.
One thing I learned is to double-check all connections before powering everything up. I also found that using the right cables from the weather compensation kit was essential for a stable connection. If you’re considering a similar upgrade, I highly recommend purchasing both the OpenTherm harness and the weather compensation kit to avoid any issues.
Now that everything is set up, I can control my boiler remotely and monitor its performance through the Tado app. It’s been a fantastic improvement to my home’s heating system, and I’m happy with the results!
If anyone has questions or needs advice on a similar project, feel free to reach out. I’m happy to help!
