I’ve been on an exciting journey to upgrade my home security system, and I wanted to share my experiences with you all. ![]()

The Problem:
I’ve had my original Qolsys panel for years, but it recently gave up the ghost. With my Gold automation plan and central station monitoring, I knew I needed a seamless transition to the new IQ panel 2+. The challenge was ensuring all my devices—door sensors, image sensors, thermostats, and more—would work perfectly with the new setup. ![]()
The Process:
- Research: I started by going through the Alarm.com portal to understand what would transfer and what wouldn’t. It was a bit overwhelming with all the automation rules and geofencing actions, but I took it one step at a time.

- Planning: I made a list of everything I had: door sensors, window sensors, image sensors, thermostats, z-wave switches, and deadbolts. I realized some of my image sensors would need to be replaced with newer models.

- Execution: The day of the swap, I carefully uninstalled the old panel and set up the new one. I followed the Alarm.com guide to enroll each sensor and device. It took a while, but seeing everything come back online was rewarding!

- Testing: I spent hours testing each feature—arming/disarming, geofencing, thermostat rules, and even the new Skybell doorbell. Everything worked like clockwork!

Lessons Learned:
- Backup Your Data: I wish I had backed up my automation rules before starting. Thankfully, I could recreate them from memory.

- Take It Slow: Don’t rush the setup. Double-checking each device’s status saved me from potential headaches.

- Community Support: The forums were invaluable. Seeing others’ experiences gave me confidence and tips I wouldn’t have thought of.

Final Thoughts:
Upgrading my security system was a daunting task, but breaking it down into manageable steps made it achievable. I’m thrilled with how everything came together and the peace of mind it provides. If anyone else is considering an upgrade, I say go for it—you won’t regret it! ![]()
