Upgrading to 4G LTE for Enhanced Security and Reliability

As the 3G sunset approaches, it’s crucial to ensure our security systems remain robust and reliable. I recently upgraded my system to a 4G LTE module and wanted to share my experience and some insights for those considering the switch.

First, it’s essential to check the compatibility of your current panel with the new 4G LTE module. For instance, the 2GIG Go!Control or GC2 requires a 4G LTE module and a firmware update. The panel firmware must be at least 1.19 or higher. Updating the firmware can be done via a USB cable or Over The Air (OTA), though the OTA update needs the panel to communicate with Alarm.com first.

For Qolsys IQ Panel (Gen 1) users, replacing the entire panel is necessary as the cellular module isn’t modular. The new Qolsys IQ Panel 2+ with 4G LTE is a great alternative, offering enhanced features like legacy radio support and improved encryption.

Those with Interlogix Concord 4 or Simon XT/XTi/XTi5 panels should look into specific 4G LTE modules. Firmware updates are crucial here too; for example, Simon XT users need at least firmware 1.3 to work with the new modules.

If you’re unsure about the upgrade process, Surety Home offers helpful resources, including firmware release notes and video guides on how to swap modules or update firmware. Their support team is also available for private inquiries.

Switching to 4G LTE not only ensures continued functionality but also enhances security with more reliable communication. It’s a small investment that can make a significant difference in safeguarding your home.

Have you made the switch to 4G LTE? I’d love to hear about your experiences or any tips you might have for others considering this upgrade!
