Upgrading to HMIP-BROLL-2: A Smooth Transition with Tips

I recently made the switch from my old eQ-3 elero roller blind controls to the HMIP-BROLL-2, and I couldn’t be happier with the upgrade. The installation process was straightforward, and the additional functionalities are a huge plus. If you’re considering making the same move, here’s what I learned along the way.

First, replacing the old Astro and central control units with the HMIP-BROLL-2 was a breeze. I kept my existing central switch in the ground floor (EG) and replaced it with the WRC6, which has opened up a world of new possibilities. The integration with my smart home system has been seamless, and I love how customizable the settings are.

One thing I found particularly useful was creating a custom label template for the WRC6. I based it on the official HM-Vorlage but added some personal touches, like adjusting the transparency to match the HomeMatic gray. Here’s how I did it:

  1. Designing the Template: I started with the official template and added icons to make it more intuitive. I used a 30% transparency for a sleek look.
  2. Cutting the Stickers: For precision, I folded the printed template along the lower line and used nail scissors to cut out the IP-Button neatly.

I’ve attached the template file for anyone who might find it helpful. Feel free to download and modify it to suit your needs!

Another area I’ve been exploring is the Plant Monitor component in Lovelace. It’s incredibly useful for tracking plant health, but I’ve noticed that the icon colors can sometimes be too similar to the background, making them hard to distinguish. If anyone has tips on improving this, I’d love to hear them!

In summary, upgrading to the HMIP-BROLL-2 has been a great decision. The enhanced features and customization options make it a worthwhile investment. If you’re on the fence, I highly recommend giving it a try!

Happy smart home tinkering! :star2:
