Hey everyone, I’ve recently upgraded my OpenHab setup from version 2.5.9 to OH3 M3, running it in a Docker container on my Synology NAS. It’s been quite the journey, but I’m thrilled with the results so far! OH3 is a massive improvement, and I can already see why it’s the future of smart home automation.![]()
One of the first things I noticed is how much smoother everything runs. My Homematic components, which are mostly IP-based, have transitioned well. However, I’ve encountered an interesting issue with my HM-LC-SW2-FM switch. It works perfectly in OH2.5.9, but in OH3, there seems to be a problem with linking multiple channels to different items. Every time I try to link a new channel, it replaces the existing one instead of creating a new entry. I’ve tried restarting the Docker container and even deleting and recreating the thing, but the issue persists. Has anyone else experienced this, or do you have any ideas on how to resolve it?
On a more positive note, I’ve been experimenting with automations and custom integrations. For example, I’ve set up a system where my outdoor lights change colors based on the time of day, using RGB bulbs from Costco Feit. It’s a fun way to add some personality to my home. I’ve also been exploring the new dashboard features in OH3, which are much more customizable than before. I’m thinking of creating a 3D dashboard to visualize my smart home setup, but I’m not sure where to start. Any suggestions would be welcome!
Another thing I’ve been curious about is how others handle device energy usage tracking. I accidentally removed a device from my energy dashboard and can’t seem to add it back. If anyone has tips on restoring or re-adding devices to the energy dashboard, I’d love to hear them.
Overall, I’m really excited about the possibilities OH3 offers. It’s a bit of a learning curve, but the community support has been fantastic. I can’t wait to dive deeper into all the new features and see how I can make my smart home even smarter!
Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences and tips. Keep the ideas coming, and happy automating
