Hello Wyze enthusiasts! I recently upgraded from the Wyze Cam Gen 1 to the new Gen 4 model, and I must say, the overall quality improvement is impressive. However, I’ve noticed that the basic plan for the Gen 4 is significantly more limited compared to the previous generation. It essentially only provides snapshot functionality, which feels a bit underwhelming after such a big upgrade.
I’ve been experimenting with the camera and discovered that adding an SD card does allow for some level of recording without needing to subscribe to the premium plan. While it’s not a perfect solution, it does provide a workaround for those who want to keep their costs low. Here’s how I made it work:
- SD Card Installation: I installed a 32GB microSD card into the camera, which provides ample storage for basic recording needs.
- Recording Settings: I adjusted the camera settings to prioritize motion-activated recording. This way, the camera only records when it detects movement, conserving storage space.
- Local Storage: The recordings are stored directly on the SD card, which means I can review them locally without relying on the cloud.
While this setup doesn’t match the convenience of the premium plan, it’s a viable alternative for those who want to avoid additional subscription costs. I’d love to hear if anyone else has found a different solution or workaround for maximizing the Gen 4’s capabilities without upgrading to the paid plan.
Overall, I’m happy with the Gen 4’s performance, and I’m hopeful that Wyze will continue to enhance the basic plan features in the future. If anyone has tips or tricks for optimizing the Gen 4’s functionality, please share them below! ![]()
