Hi everyone! I’ve been experimenting with setting up motion lighting using a contact sensor instead of a traditional motion detector. While it seems straightforward, I encountered a bit of a hiccup that I wanted to share and hopefully get some insights on.
I wanted to automate the garage lights to turn on when I open the laundry door and stay on for 5 minutes. The setup involved a Sonoff Zigbee contact sensor and a Z-Wave light switch. Everything paired correctly, and the lights do come on when the door is opened. However, they never turn off automatically. The logs show that the ‘off’ trigger isn’t being sent, which is puzzling.
I’ve tried this with two other doors in the house, and the same issue persists. The lights come on but never go off. I suspect it might be a configuration issue in the Motion Lighting app, but I’m not entirely sure. I’d love to hear if anyone else has successfully used a contact sensor in this way or has any troubleshooting tips.
Here’s a quick rundown of my setup:
- Contact Sensor: Sonoff Zigbee
- Light Switch: Z-Wave
- App: Motion Lighting
If anyone has a solution or workaround, I’d be really grateful! It would be fantastic to get this automation working seamlessly. Thanks in advance for your help! ![]()
