I’m getting to grips with Aqara & have just set up some bulbs in the terrace which switch on when a person is detected by the terrace camera (a G100). But I can’t find a way of turning the lights off when nobody is detected for a while. Please let me know how this can be done - do I need a more expensive Aqara camera to have a ‘nobody detected’ automation, please? I would appreciate any help or ideas.
You need a sensor.
Hi , unfortunately I’m not at home and can test this automation… but this should work with a delay in automation settings
Otherwise you need a sensor like @Caroline_Zzz mentioned
Thanks - yes, that’s how I’ve set it up, with a time delay to switch off. It would be better to have an option such as ‘when no person detected over x minutes’ so the light doesn’t go off prematurely when there is someone still around. Is this likely to be a future option, do you think? This is for a terrace light exposed to a lot of wind so things move about. I’ve tried a presence sensor, but when it’s very windy or rainy it can’t differentiate humans from other things moving. However, the G100 detecting just person movements seem to have solved the problem except that the timed off sometimes cuts the light when somebody is still present.
Got ya! Yes this feature definitely would solve that problem and makes sense !
Maybe can @Cifer_Aqara help this way and tell us , if it’s possible to implement that feature?
But we still need to remember that G100 is a basic cam of the Aqara portfolio and there are other devices with these features
Thanks DEChrisE - I will contact Cifer_Aqara on this (when I’ve worked out how to do that on this forum). If other Aqara cameras already have a ‘when no person detected for x minutes’ option, then I will upgrade my G100 - but does anyone know which camera I need for this, please?
Hi @server_montbretias ! @Cifer_Aqara already is notified by this message and will give an answer here, when he read it.
The G5 has this option you asked for - but it’s named a bit strange in my opinion
Thank you - as you say, the detection of ‘non-lingerers’ is strange phrasing but I’m sure it’s what I need. This feature isn’t available in the G100, so I I’m hoping for a response from Cifer as to what camera I need- If it’s only the C5 then I’ll get one, but I want WiFi not PoE so will wait for confirmation of what models detect ‘non-lingerers’
I’ve done some more research & I believe that the lingerer detection in the G5 is based on PIR and/or microwave (like you find in presence sensors) and not by AI image interpretation. If this is the case, it won’t work for my outside application with stuff flapping about in the wind. I’ve tried presence sensors and they don’t work well outside.
Sorry, but I find the arm/disarm menus in the Aqara app for my G100 cameras incomprehensible. I would appreciate somebody’s help, please. I simply want my four cameras to start giving ‘beep’ notifications to my iOS devices when ‘away’ and be completely silent when disarmed’. I can’t get them to stop notifications when disarmed, and when armed I can’t change the shrieking wailing noise, even if I set to another tone for 1 second. Furthermore, on my Mac if I attempt a set-up it freezes on any window and I can’t go back or forward. All I want is:
- no notifications at all when disarmed
- notifications when armed (Away) but just a gentle beep without wailing noises.
Help, please!
As far as I know, the PIR sensor on the G5 Pro camera activates both the recording function and AI image interpretation. Depending on the settings, the AI image interpretation then determines whether to discard or keep the recording, send a notification, or start an automation.
You cannot select the sensor directly for automation. Only as shown by DEChrisE in the screenshot (e.g., when a person is detected or is no longer there). Which, in my opinion, is just the AI interpretation of the image. If there were another option for the PIR sensor, I would personally use it, but there isn’t one at the moment.
I used the Camera G5 Pro Hub with Wi-Fi. The AI takes a little while to recognize people, but it works very reliably.
Thanks for the details, I think I’ll give the G5 a go.
Follow up- I’ve just bought a G5 and have installed it so that my terrace lights come on when a person is detected. I’ve just used a delay function (1 min) to turn them off again. It seems very reliable with no false positives so far. The ‘lingerer’ option doesn’t seem to work, but I’m happy with the timer option. This works much better than the presence sensor I had before, which was too sensitive to non-human movement, wind and rain. The colour night vision is amazing on this camera, by the way!
It’s great that everything is running smoothly now.
I have to correct that in part, by the way. I found out that you can use the PIR sensor directly via Apple Home (HomeKit). But you can’t select the sensor directly in the Aqara Home app. As one of my cameras is indoors, I use the sensor to turn on the light, which reacts faster than AI detection.
Great that it works as expected! ![]()
And yes ! the night coloring of G5 is really a bust ![]()
