Using Wyzecam Motion Sensing with TP-Link Smart Plugs

I’ve been exploring ways to integrate my Wyzecams with TP-Link Smart Wi-Fi plugs (HS105) to create a smart lighting setup. My goal is to have the lights turn on when motion is detected and automatically turn off after five minutes, mimicking a traditional ‘dumb’ motion-sensing security light.

Currently, I’m using IFTTT to trigger the plugs ON or OFF based on motion events from my Wyzecams. However, I’ve hit a snag—IFTTT doesn’t allow for an automatic toggle after a fixed interval. This means the lights stay on indefinitely until I manually turn them off, which isn’t ideal.

I also have an Amazon Echo and Google Home, so I’m curious if either could help bridge this gap without needing a smart home hub or additional smart plugs. I’ve heard great things about services like Stringify, but I’m not sure if they offer the functionality I need.

It’s a bit frustrating because a simple, non-smart motion light seems more ‘intelligent’ in this scenario. I’m hoping the community might have some clever workarounds or insights on how to achieve this setup. Any suggestions or shared experiences would be incredibly helpful!

Let’s brainstorm together—maybe there’s a creative solution I haven’t considered yet. I’m open to trying new approaches and excited to learn from others’ experiences!
