VirtualBox Boot Issue and Resolution

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share my recent experience with a VirtualBox boot issue, in case it helps someone else. After updating my Windows PC, my Home Assistant VirtualBox machine wouldn’t boot anymore. It got stuck on a ‘cmd-style window’ with the text ‘Autoboot-’. I quickly took a screenshot of some error messages that flashed by.

I suspected the problem might be related to Hyper-V, as I had tried creating a Windows VM using Hyper-V earlier. Even though I disabled Hyper-V, it seems some settings lingered. My older HA VM also wouldn’t boot, which was concerning since I hadn’t taken any snapshots yet.

After some research, I found that disabling Hyper-V completely and rebooting the host machine resolved the issue. I also updated VirtualBox to the latest version to ensure compatibility. Now, both my HA VMs are running smoothly again!

It’s a relief to have everything back up and running. I learned the importance of thorough Hyper-V cleanup and the value of regular snapshots. Hopefully, this helps someone else avoid the frustration I felt.

Best regards,
