Vistacam Data Transmission Issue and Possible Solutions

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my experience with the Vistacam PT cameras and how I managed to address a significant issue I encountered. I recently set up two Vistacam PT cameras in my remote cottage to keep an eye on the property. The setup seemed straightforward, but I quickly noticed an unexpected problem: the cameras were continuously transmitting data over the internet at a rate of approximately 1.0 Mbps, even when I wasn’t actively monitoring them through the web portal. This was concerning because my internet connection is limited and expensive, with restricted data volumes per month. I couldn’t afford to exceed my data cap, especially with hefty penalties involved.

I reached out to the community for advice, and after some research, I discovered that the cameras were designed to maintain a constant connection, which explained the continuous data flow. However, this wasn’t ideal for my use case. I wanted the cameras to only transmit data when I was actively viewing them or when motion was detected. After some trial and error, I found a workaround by adjusting the camera settings to enter a low-power mode when not in use. This significantly reduced the data transmission, making the setup feasible for my remote location.

I’d like to hear from others who might have faced similar challenges or have tips on optimizing camera performance in low-bandwidth environments. It’s always great to learn from the community’s experiences and find innovative solutions together!
