W100 + E1 Smart thermostat

Hey there,
I have installed several Smart Radiator thermostat E1 on heated floor valves, It works (opens an closes the heated zones properly), expecting to use W100 with them. It is the perfect use case for the E1+W100, since I have several rooms without wired thermostats. Also I have 2 floors, which complicates a bit zigbee network, but I solved the issue with T2 relays which extend it perfectly.

I had to switch the W100 to zigbee firmware, then have linked W100 to the E1 both ways, I figured you need to add the w100 to the E1, and the E1 to the W100 to control and get feedback.

Then comes the zigbee reachability:
All my devices have strong zigbee link up to my M3 hub, which I can check in the app, this is the only zigbee network I have at home and they are all aqara devices. I have a group of E1/W100 within a few meters from each other, and a second group which are not on the same floors.

It looks like the E1 is not able to follow the zigbee network up the w100 (or the other way around), and therefore loses connexion with the w100.
It constantly tells me “please check or re associate the device if the associated device is off-line, faulty or has an abnormal network”
When I remove the w100 and E1 from the app and re-associate them, they appear connected for a few hours, I can see the real room temperature for a few hours on the E1, and it activates the heated floor as expected, but then they lose again the connection.
The T2 relays came in later to extend my zigbee network, and I assume they are not used by the E1 and W100 to communicate with each other.

Questions :
-Does the E1 and W100 need to be within close range to work together (I assume no, otherwise the use case is crooked)?
-if no, Are they able to use the full zigbee network?
-Ive read that aqara zigbee routes were created at installation, and then wouldn’t change or heal, is it true?
-if yes, is there a way to factory reset them, so they rebuild the zigbee route to one another? which might solve my issue?

@rwan_ch Hey there!

Thanks for sharing your experience with the Smart Radiator Thermostat E1 and the W100. It sounds like you’ve set up a comprehensive smart heating system!

Regarding your questions:

  1. Range and Network Use: Zigbee devices, including the E1 and W100, are designed to work within a mesh network. This means they don’t necessarily need to be in close range of each other as they can communicate via other Zigbee devices in the network (like your T2 relays) to extend their reach. However, it’s important to ensure that each device is within range of at least one other device or relay to maintain a stable connection.

  2. Zigbee Network Configuration: Zigbee networks typically form routes during installation. If devices are moved or if new devices like relays are added, the network can sometimes require a refresh. While Zigbee networks are designed to self-heal, sometimes a manual intervention can help.

  3. Factory Reset for Route Rebuilding: You can try resetting the devices to encourage them to rebuild the network route. For the Aqara Radiator Thermostat E1, performing a network reset usually involves long-pressing a specific button for about 10 seconds. This should remove any existing connections and help establish new routes once reconnected.

For more personalized assistance, especially if the issue persists after these steps, it might be beneficial to engage with the community or contact Aqara’s customer support. They can provide insights specific to your setup.

Hi!

  1. No, they connect via Aqara Zigbee hub
  2. They can use Zigbee repeaters (routers) if you have some. If you suspect the routers are not use, try rebooting the hub and keeping it offline for some time but there is no easy way to check which repeaters are used within Aqara Home app for now, unfortunately. We are working on the future solutions.
  3. They usually reset when some notes are disappearing, for example, if you power off the repeater the device should reconnect to the coordinator/hub.
  4. Of course, if there is some problem, you can repair the device. It will try to find a new route automatically.

Thanks for your feedback.
I have :
-tried to keep the m3 offline for a while
-tried to remove batteries of the E1
-remove all accessories then re-add them
-unpair W100 from E1 and re-add them.

All devices show strong to excellent zigbee connectivity since the T2 have been placed a week or two ago.

Every time it’s the same thing. When I pair w100 and e1, they seem to work together for a while and then, lose connectivity (both E1)
