W200 - Apple Adaptive Temp - AC not turning when Apple calls for it?

Hello,

I recently installed a W200 and thur far have been enjoying it very much. My question for everyone pertains to when Adaptive Temp is turned on. I see in Apple Home where Apple calls for cooling at it will say “cooling to set temp”, but the compressor won’t turn on. It appears (as far as I can tell) that it won’t turn on until the thermostat itself detects a temp 1 degree higher, despite Apple Home calling for it. The same is true about turning off the compressor… Apple Home will report its “off”, but it’s still running. I know the thermostat runs +1 to -1 of target set temp, but is anyone else seeing where Apple Home won’t accurately report the on/off state? I’m on firmware 4.5.48 (haven’t gotten the .49 yet).

Thanks!

@SiXX5150 You’re not alone in noticing some “lag” between what Apple Home says (Cooling / Off) and what the HVAC equipment is actually doing—especially when Adaptive Temperature is involved. A couple of things to sanity-check on the Apple side first:

  • Adaptive Temperature is an Apple Home feature that uses your iPhone’s predictions + home activity states (At Home / Sleep / Away / Vacation) to regulate the W200’s settings.
  • It also has hard requirements: all Home members need an iPhone/Apple Watch on version 26+, and you need a Home Hub (Apple TV/HomePod) on version 26+.

If any device in that chain is below the required version (or if the Home Hub is missing / not updated), you can end up with odd behavior where Apple Home’s “call” doesn’t cleanly match what the thermostat ends up doing. That’s the first thing I’d verify.

That said, the specific “compressor doesn’t kick on until it’s ~1°F above setpoint” and “keeps running after Apple shows off” can also be influenced by thermostat control logic/hysteresis and compressor protection timers—but I don’t have enough official W200 details in the reference info here to say exactly how W200 reports state back to Apple Home in those edge cases.

If everything is on the required Apple versions and it still happens, you seem to be experiencing an issue with Apple Home Adaptive Temperature showing an on/off state that doesn’t match the W200 compressor behavior. You can contact customer support for assistance.
