W200 Factory Reset

I have a W200 thermostat that I am attempting to install and add to app. Unfortunately, it appears to have a security PIN on it but I do not know what it is nor do I have the ability to retrieve it. Is there any way to by-pass this to do a factory reset? I really need to get this installed! Thanks in advance

Where did you buy it? You’d have to set the password after set up. Did you purchase new?

To turn it off try:
In the Aqara app try Settings > Thermostat Settings > Security Settings.

Have you forgotten your password?

How to factory-reset a “stuck” Aqara Thermostat Hub W200 (Device Not Configured / can’t delete from app)

Posting this because I lost an absurd amount of time on it and none of the fixes are documented anywhere — not in the manual, not in support articles, and (when I searched) not in this forum. Hopefully it saves the next person.

The stuck state

My W200 got into a state where:

  • The screen sat on “Device not configured — go to the Aqara Home app to complete configuration.”
  • It never finished the HVAC setup wizard (the wizard runs live wiring detection and won’t complete unless the full wire harness is landed — you can’t finish it on a bench with partial wiring).
  • In the Aqara app, the device showed on the Accessories tab as a stub, but tapping it only re-launched the config wizard → same wiring dead-end. There was no reachable “Remove Device” option — the delete lives behind the device settings page, which is gated behind the wizard you can’t complete.
  • Every documented factory-reset path I could find said reset lives under Settings → Advanced Settings → Factory Reset, i.e. behind the home screen — which this unit never reaches in the unconfigured state.

So: couldn’t complete setup, couldn’t delete from the app, couldn’t reach the documented reset. Aqara support’s answer for the equivalent stuck case (seen in another forum thread) was essentially “contact us, we have a backdoor operation” on their end. Dead end everywhere.

The fix (the part nobody documents)

From the “Device not configured” screen, swipe DOWN from the top of the touchscreen. This brings up a hidden control overlay (brightness slider, etc.) with a gear/settings icon. Tap the gear, and you get:

  • Restore Factory Settings →
  • Device Restart →
  • About →

Tap Restore Factory Settings → Restore. It warns it will erase all settings, network data, and bound-ecosystem configuration (Matter/Aqara binding), takes ~2–3 minutes — do not cut power during the reset.

When it finished, the unit announced “Factory Reset Complete” and rebooted to the clean out-of-box onboarding screen. Bonus: the reset also released the cloud binding — the stub disappeared from the Aqara app on its own, no separate delete needed.

Key takeaways / gotchas

  1. The swipe-down gear menu is reachable even from the “Device not configured” onboarding screen. This is the whole unlock. The reset is NOT only behind the home screen, contrary to the docs.
  2. The HVAC setup wizard uses live wiring detection — you cannot complete it on a bench with only partial wiring. It needs the full harness present.
  3. Matter pairing requires the Aqara app + an Aqara account first — the on-device QR is an Aqara identifier, not a Matter setup code. Direct “Add to Apple Home / scan Matter code” won’t work until the Aqara app mints the Matter code.
  4. The Aqara app exposes no delete for a commissioned-but-unconfigured stub — the “Remove Device” option is behind the device settings page, which the wizard gate blocks. The factory reset above is what actually clears it (both device and cloud record).

Hope this helps someone avoid the rabbit hole. Good luck.
