W200 Thermostat - Unable to Select IKEA Temperature Sensor as a Source

Has anyone had any success using the new IKEA TIMMERFLOTTE Temp Sensor as the primary “data source” for the W200 thermostat?

I have successfully added the sensor itself in the Aqara app as a Matter device. I even made sure that I ONLY added it in the Aqara app (not Apple Home).

When I go to the settings for the W200 thermostat under “Set Data Source”, the IKEA sensor does not show up as an available device under “Select a Temperature Sensor”.

Weirdly, if I try to create a “Soft Sensor”, the IKEA sensor is one of the available devices for the temperature averaging. But there is no way for me to designate the IKEA sensor as the ONLY data source (I want to use only the temp in my bedroom as the data source…I don’t want to average it other sensors.

Am I incorrect in thinking that I should be able to select any matter temp sensor as the ONLY data source?

The IKEA TIMMERFLOTTE doesn’t have a Matter Binding cluster, which is required to bind it directly to the W200.

The W200 has one, of course:

Haha, you got it! Virtual temperature sensing is an excellent solution. Thanks to this feature, we achieve better compatibility with sensors from various brands within the Matter ecosystem.

Here’s how to set it up: After adding the IKEA sensor, take it offline (e.g., perform a device reset), then add it again. You will see two device cards for the same IKEA sensor in your account — one shows offline status while the other is the newly added entry. Simply combine the two into one virtual sensor, and you’ll get a single, consistent data reading from the device.

Thank you so much! This works like a charm!

Hopefully it will be easier in the future…but that’s the price we pay for early adoption!
