This weekend, I decided to dive into setting up some smart home automation in my house. It’s been on my list for a while, and I finally took the plunge! I wanted to create a system that would make my mornings a bit easier, so I focused on automating my lighting and coffee maker.
I started by setting up a routine where my bedroom lights gradually turn on at 7 AM, followed by the kitchen lights a few minutes later. I also connected my coffee maker to the system so that it starts brewing as soon as the lights come on. The idea was to have a smooth wake-up experience without having to fiddle with switches or buttons.
The setup wasn’t without its challenges, though. Initially, the automation wasn’t working as expected. The lights would come on, but the coffee maker wouldn’t start. After some troubleshooting, I realized that the issue was with the integration between my smart plug and the coffee maker. I had to adjust the timing in the automation rules to account for the delay in the coffee maker’s startup.
Once everything was sorted out, the system worked like a charm! Waking up to a gradually brightening room and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee was such a nice way to start the day. It made me realize just how much potential smart home automation has for enhancing everyday routines.
For anyone looking to set up something similar, I’d recommend starting small and testing each component individually before linking them together. It might take a bit of trial and error, but the end result is definitely worth it. Happy automating! ![]()
