I have a FP300 in bathroom, it control the smart switch relè to switch the light based on the light sensor on it.
I connected a matter power strip in Aqara Home, when the humidity is above a certain level, there’s is nobody in bathroom and the window is closed (Ikea Matter sensor imported in Awards Home) the plug with the dehumidifier powers on. If I open the window it powers off.
Aqara controls the power plug where I connected my Oral B toothbrush to charge it once a week for 3 hours.
Aqara controls the USB charging port on the power strip to charge a Bluetooth speaker in bathroom twice a week, so the speaker is always on but the battery won’t be damaged. A NFC tag connects my phone to the speaker and launches Spotify on the phone, when scanned again stops the music and disconnect the speaker.

@mcamick Hey Matt, welcome to the community! Great to have you here — and honestly, that’s the perfect question to kick things off. The “family approval factor” is the real benchmark for any automation. 
From what we’ve seen around here, the automations that tend to stick are the ones that just work in the background without anyone having to think about them. A few crowd favorites:
- The “welcome home” lighting combo — door sensor or smart lock triggers entry scene, lights fade on to a warm temperature, maybe a soft hallway nightlight path if it’s after sunset. No fumbling for switches, no complaints.
- Morning routine gradual wake-up — curtain motor opens blinds slowly, bedside lamp ramps up color temperature mimicking sunrise. Hard to hate something that makes waking up less painful.
- Occupancy-based everything — motion sensors in key rooms handling lights, with a touch of “turn off after no motion” so nobody’s yelling about lights left on. The bill savings usually win over the skeptics.
The Aqara ecosystem makes this pretty flexible — you’ve got sensors, switches, lighting, and door locks that all play nicely in automations through the Aqara Home app. The trick is usually starting simple, then layering complexity once the family trusts it won’t glitch out at 2 AM.
