Hello! I am a long-time HomeKit user with a 36 device network. I recently replaced an old CircleView camera (one of four) with an Aqara G5 Pro Wifi camera. The video quality is great and the implementation quite easy. However, despite configuring the Aqara camera the same as the three remaining CircleViews, I do not get notifications of people detection, package detection, etc. Those notifications come through on the Aqara app, but my strong preference is to have the notifications all in one place. Suggestions @AqaraBot ?

@aqara_strainer408 It sounds like you’re having a bit of a snag with getting the notifications you want in one place. Since you’re using HomeKit and the Aqara G5 Pro camera, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the lack of notifications for people and package detection in HomeKit:

1. Check Notification Settings

  • In the Aqara App: Ensure that notifications are enabled for the Camera in the Aqara app. Also, double - check the specific notification settings related to people and package detection.
  • In the HomeKit - related apps: Make sure that notifications are enabled for the Aqara camera within the Home app on your iOS device.

2. Firmware and App Updates

  • Aqara G5 Pro Camera: Ensure that the camera’s firmware is up - to - date. You can usually check for firmware updates within the Aqara app.
  • iOS System and Home app: Update your iOS system to the latest version. An outdated system or app version can lead to issues with notifications.

3. Re - link the Camera

Sometimes re - linking the Aqara Camera in the Home app can help. Remove the camera from HomeKit, then add it again to refresh the connection.

4. Check Wi - Fi Connection

Make sure your camera is connected to a stable Wi - Fi network. Poor connectivity can affect the ability of the camera to send notifications.

5. Adjust Motion Detection Settings

Verify that the motion detection settings on your Aqara G5 Pro Camera are configured properly. If the sensitivity is too low or motion detection is turned off for people and package detection, you won’t receive notifications.

6. Review Device Permissions

On your mobile device, check that the Home app has the necessary permissions to send notifications. Go to your device’s settings and ensure that notifications are allowed for the app.

I hope these steps help you get the notifications you want in HomeKit. If you have any other questions or if these steps don’t work, feel free to let us know and we can try to figure it out together!

@AqaraBot is there a best practice document of some kind for setting up Aqara devices within Apple Home?

@Moleshome There isn’t a specific “best practice document” mentioned in the reference information. But if you’re having trouble adding an Aqara device to HomeKit, you can try the following solutions:

  1. Check the network connection:
    • Ensure that both your Aqara device and HomeKit hub (such as iPhone, iPad, or HomePod) are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Devices on different networks may not communicate with each other.
    • Check Wi-Fi router settings: Ensure that the router does not have AP Isolation enabled and that mDNS functionality is not disabled. These settings may prevent the phone from communicating with the device on the same local network.
    • You can try using a different phone to create a Wi-Fi hotspot and connect the device to this hotspot for testing.
  2. Restart the Aqara device and hub: Turn off and restart both the Aqara device and your HomeKit hub (e.g., iPhone, iPad, or HomePod). Sometimes a restart can resolve temporary connection issues.
  3. Ensure the Aqara device is in pairing mode: Make sure the Aqara device is in pairing mode. Refer to the Aqara device manual to learn how to put it into pairing mode.
  4. Check the HomeKit pairing code: During the setup process, make sure you scan the HomeKit pairing code from the Aqara device or its manual. If scanning fails, you can try manually entering the pairing code.
  5. Update device firmware and software: Ensure your Aqara device, Aqara Home app, and iPhone/iPad with the Apple Home app are all updated to the latest versions. Check for firmware updates for the Aqara device in the Aqara Home app and apply any available updates.
  6. Reset the Aqara device: If the above steps don’t resolve the issue, try resetting the Aqara device and re-pairing it. Typically, you can reset the device by holding the reset button for 5 - 10 seconds. After resetting, try adding the device to HomeKit again.
  7. Check HomeKit limits: If you are close to the HomeKit accessory limit (100 devices), you may need to remove some devices to add new ones.
  8. Check the status of the Apple HomeHub: Ensure that your Apple HomeHub (such as HomePod, Apple TV, or iPad) is working correctly and connected to the HomeKit network. If there is an issue with the HomeHub, devices may not be able to add to HomeKit.
  9. Use the Aqara Home app to pair directly: If adding the device via the Apple Home app fails, try pairing it directly in the Aqara Home app and ensure it works properly within that app.
  10. Restart the router: Sometimes, network issues can be caused by the router. Try restarting your router to ensure a stable connection.
  11. Contact Aqara Support: If none of the above solutions work, contact Aqara customer support or technical support to inquire about known device issues or firmware updates.

If you’re unable to control Aqara devices in Apple Home, here are some common troubleshooting steps:

  1. Check Compatibility: Ensure that the Aqara device you are trying to control is compatible with HomeKit. You can confirm this by checking the product packaging or Aqara’s official website for the “Works with Apple HomeKit” label.
  2. Ensure Proper Pairing:
    • Double-check that your Aqara device has been properly paired with Apple Home.
    • Open the Apple Home app.
    • Tap the “+” icon in the top-right corner, then select “Add Accessory”.
    • Scan the HomeKit pairing code on the Aqara device or follow the instructions provided in the Aqara app.
  3. Check Wi-Fi and Network:
    • Make sure that both your Aqara devices and Apple HomeKit hub (i.e., your iPhone, iPad, or HomePod) are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
    • A weak or unstable Wi-Fi connection can interfere with the communication between your devices.
  4. Update Firmware:
    • Ensure that both your Aqara devices and your Apple HomeKit hub (iPhone, iPad, etc.) are running the latest software and firmware versions.
    • Check the Aqara Home app for firmware updates and apply any available updates to your Aqara devices.
  5. Reboot the Devices:
    • Sometimes simply restarting the Aqara device and/or the Apple Home hub (iPhone, iPad, HomePod) can resolve connectivity issues.
    • Power cycle the Aqara device or reset it, and restart your Apple HomeKit hub.
  6. Re-add the Aqara Device:
    • If the device is still not controllable, remove it from the Apple Home app and try re-adding it:
    • Open Apple Home app.
    • Long press the Aqara device and select Remove Accessory.
    • Re-add the device by scanning the HomeKit pairing code again.
  7. Check for HomeKit Limitations: Some Aqara devices may have specific features that are not fully supported by HomeKit. In such cases, check the Aqara app for alternative settings or features that are accessible outside of HomeKit.
  8. Reset the Aqara Hub: If the issue persists, you might need to reset the Aqara hub and re-pair it with both the Aqara app and Apple Home. Follow the reset instructions provided in the Aqara Home app or the device manual.

These steps should help you set up and manage Aqara devices within Apple Home. If anyone else has more tips or experiences to share, feel free to chime in!
