I have a FP2 and have it running some daily basic automation to turn on/off bulbs in different areas.
What is you more amazing automation using the FP2. I’d like to get another one to cover another room and blind spot, but need to justify it to my self.
Using Home Assistant I keep track of how many people are home and in each room. This way I can do things like cancel motion timers in unoccupied rooms (thereby turning off their lights) and tailor voice announcements to the number of people in the room, or even refer to them by name in some circumstances.
The FP2 is great because I can actually know how many people are in the room, rather than only assuming it’s >0 for some time after motion or if there’s a door sensor and it’s closed while there’s motion.
I have an air purifier behind a chair in the living room and I also reduce its speed if someone is in that chair.
I have a automation that stops the TV playing and turns on some lights when i get up from the couch. When i am back on it, lights turn off and the TV starts playing again. Of course only when its dark. Using FP2 and HomeKit.
I mapped out our living room and kitchen areas that are relatively connected with a kitchen island in the middle. My wife loves the pendant lights above the kitchen island so I created an occupancy automation that turns on those lights when someone sits on the stools.
I would say that’s my favorite one since it makes my wife happy — which grants me access to do more things since she’s not the biggest fan of technology “tracking” us.
I made an automatic cat waterer. paired with a smart faucet. keep the spigot valve barely opened. So there’s not a gush of water to scare the cat. cats like running water. So when , she’s near the bowl that is outside she always has fresh running water.
I was hoping to have my FP2 track when I’m in bed (sleeping), but it’s been inconsistent. It occasionally clears presence for upwards of 10 minutes while I’m asleep, which left me sleeping with the lights on. This might be due to user error and positioning, but currently anything I do with it needs a long debounce period.
I use the HomeKit Controller app and work with scenes. I have one scene for TV pause + lights on, and one scene for TV play and lights off. The zone is the couch. If no one is present in the zone, I turn the lights on and pause the TV. The condition is: Lux value FP2 is below value X and the TV is on. My 2022 Sony TV is integrated with HomeKit, and the HomeKit Controller app offers various options for my TV, including play and pause. It’s actually quite simple.
I tried to do the same, but similarly it will sometimes stop tracking me or my wife. Another issue is that it will sometimes “merge” us into one person. So that way if someone gets up, it thinks the bed is completely empty, which caused issues for my automations.
Oh man, that’s a bummer! I’d have imagined more people would give it more of a chance for detection, but merging really breaks that assumption. At this point, I’m convinced only a pressure sensor on the bed or the floor would be sufficiently reliable. I may have to do some DIY…
Had this Automation too with an ipad. That unfortunately broke and then Aqara came with the S1 Panel Hub. The Aqara Panel has an integrated Sensor to track a Person in front
Using the FP2, temp/humidity sensor and Homeassistant. I have the automation setup to control the lights in 2 zones of my wifes downstairs office/Craft/Reading room as well as the AC.
When anyone enters the room, the main lights are turned on, this is zone 1. If she goes to her reading nook which is zone 2, the main lights are turned off and her reading lamp is turned on. The reverse happens if she gets up from her reading area and returns to her desk/crafting area. Along with this, a constant check is being performed for presense as well as the temp in the room with an Aqra temp/humidity sensor. If someone is there and the temp goes above 78f, then the AC for the room is turned on. However, if no one is in the room for more than 10min, then all lights and the AC is turned off.
