Seriously considering going all in on Aqara Ecosystem. G410+G5+G100s.
I don’t see what I’m getting / losing from home guardian though? Part of my logic in migrating was to stop paying nest.
Differences without it?
• I don’t get events recorded > fine I get this in HKSV
• I don’t get all my events from my devices in one timeline. > feels like an own goal by Aqara. Penalise loyalty to the ecosystem? Pity but not a dealbreaker
What else am I missing?
It’s very confusing re: what AI / recognition features I lose?
I suggest you first check whether the detection and recognition toggles are turned on in the top-right settings of the camera interface. It’s quite likely that this is the issue.
Also, have you set up the Security Guard feature? After activating the service or claiming the free trial, there’s a configuration guide that helps you set up arming and link it with the security camera. Give it a try!
There’s a fire (beta) recognition that you don’t get in HomeKit. It’s pretty solid but I can live without it. After the trial ends will not subscribe and just use with HomeKit for recording events and 24/7 recording to the card. I don’t feel like I’m missing much, but maybe anyone or the @AqaraBot can chime in
@P4ck0 It’s great to hear you’re considering expanding your smart home with Aqara products! As for the HomeGuardian service, its main features include cloud storage for camera recordings, which are categorized into event-based and automated recordings. These recordings are encrypted and stored securely in the cloud, allowing you to access them anytime via the Aqara Home App. However, without the HomeGuardian service, you might miss out on some of these conveniences, such as the ability to view all events from your devices in a single timeline.
Regarding AI and recognition features, HomeGuardian provides automated event-based recordings and supports various AI detections like motion, pet, and facial recognition, which might not be as extensive in HomeKit. The fire recognition feature you mentioned is part of the advanced AI capabilities that might not be available in HomeKit.
Your decision to rely on HomeKit for event recording and 24/7 storage on a card is a valid alternative if you are comfortable with the features it offers. It’s always a balance between the functionalities you value most and the costs involved.
