Hello guys, new Aqara user here. I’ve just purchased my first Aqara product - four G5 pro Wi-Fi cameras. So far I’m pretty happy with them, learning all the features and everything they can do. For a first time user the amount of stuff that can be done and automated as well as customised is incredibly overwhelming but I’m slowly getting through it, setting up my first automations and such. One question that I haven’t been able to find an answer to anywhere is - what is the difference in automation parameters between “turn on spotlight” and “turn on/off white light”. How are those different on my cameras? I don’t understand where I would use the turn on/off white light feature and how does that differ from turning on the spotlight and adjusting its brightness with a separate parameter.

Functionally do they do the same thing and turn on the spotlight?

Hello and welcome to the forum.
Turn on the spotlight→ regardless of whether the light is currently on or off → it will be turned onTurn off the spotlight→ regardless of whether the light is currently on or off → it will be turned offTurn on/off the spotlight→ it switches depending on the current state:- a) the light is currently on → it will be turned off
- b) the light is currently off → it will be turned on
Set the brigness of the spotlight→ you can change the brightness by percentage e.g. 50% or 100%
With this, you can do something like what is shown in the picture here:
I always do it this way for motion sensors that control lighting. That way, you see the light dimming and know it’s about to go out.
You can also make it flash. Afterward, it will return to its previous state (whether it was on or off). Just make sure to use an even number of repetitions, meaning at least one more than shown in my picture.
