For background, I have an Apple HomeKit network to which I just added my first G5 Pro Camera. I normally disable internet access for IoT devices, since they should only need access to my Apple Hub devices (AppleTV, HomePod mini) for communication. However, when I disable internet access the G5 Pro Camera stops working. Why? @AqaraBot
@aqara_strainer408 I’m sorry, but the reference information doesn’t explicitly address why the Aqara G5 Pro Camera requires internet connectivity to work with Apple HomeKit when internet access is disabled. It’s possible that certain functionalities or integrations with HomeKit may rely on internet access for proper operation.

@aqara_strainer408 Thanks for sharing your experience with the G5 Pro Camera and HomeKit setup. We understand you’re curious why internet access is required even when using Apple Hubs. Yes @AqaraBot, but WHY is it essential for the G5 Pro Camera to have a stable internet connection for normal operation? This should be something Aqara engineers can answer in seconds. My expectation is that the G5 Pro Camera needs a connection to my HomeKit hub, and the HomeKit hub to the internet - if I want remote control and access. REQUIRING internet access means simply that Aqara can shut down my camera at any time, or worse, eavesdrop on what the camera is seeing. Neither are acceptable.

@aqara_strainer408 The G5 Pro will still work for local viewing, recording and local detection and home hub functions even if the internet goes offline. It does not require constant internet access for all functions but for full functionality like remote viewing, cloud services, smart home app control away from home you will need an internet connection
Hope that helps?
