The cold weather has definitely put my smart home setup to the test! I wanted to share some of my experiences and tips for making the most out of your smart home during the winter months. ![]()

Using Tado for Optimal Heating
I’ve been using my Tado thermostat to keep my home cozy, especially with the recent drop in temperatures. I was curious about disabling OpenTherm modulation to let my radiators run at a higher temperature during the morning. While I haven’t figured out how to completely disable it, I’ve found that adjusting the temperature settings manually gives me the warmth I need without too much hassle. If anyone has tips on fine-tuning this, I’d love to hear them!
Osram Lightify - Brightening Up the Days
Another thing I’ve been enjoying is my Osram Lightify bulbs. They’ve been a great addition to my home, especially during the darker winter days. I noticed that they update more frequently during the day, which is convenient. However, I’d love it if they could update even when I’m catching up on sleep—maybe a simple tweak in the app settings? Let me know if anyone has a workaround for this!
Smart Lighting Automation
I’ve also been experimenting with setting up my lights to turn on automatically when it gets dark outside. Using IFTTT, I’ve created a rule that activates my living room lights based on the sunset time. It’s been a game-changer for coming home to a warm, well-lit space after a long day. Plus, it’s saved me from fumbling for switches in the dark!
Winter-proofing Your Setup
For anyone looking to upgrade their smart home for winter, I’d recommend checking out the Osram Lightify range currently on sale at Amazon. It’s a fantastic way to add some holiday cheer and functionality to your home. I also found a great deal on Lowes for their Sylvania (Lightify) bulbs—definitely worth a look if you’re in the market!
Community Support
I’ve been really impressed by the support available in this community. Whether it’s troubleshooting or sharing tips, everyone’s been so helpful. For example, when I was struggling with setting up my lights, a fellow member suggested using the Eve app for more precise control. It’s these little tips that make the smart home journey so rewarding!
Stay Warm and Connected!
As we head deeper into winter, I’m grateful for the convenience and comfort my smart home provides. It’s amazing how technology can make even the coldest days feel a bit brighter. If you have any winter-specific smart home hacks or recommendations, I’d love to hear them!
Cheers to a warm and connected winter! ![]()
