Wireless Mute Button for Dance Lessons

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some creative ideas to solve a little problem I’ve come across. As a parent, I’ve been helping my 6-year-old daughter with her virtual dance lessons over Zoom. It’s been great, but managing the microphone has been a bit of a hassle. With the background noise from her siblings, I’ve been constantly monitoring the lesson and manually unmuting her whenever she needs to speak.

I thought it would be awesome to create a large, wireless mute/unmute button that she could use herself. Ideally, it would be wireless for convenience and flexible enough to work with different video chat platforms. Plus, I’d love to integrate it with my OpenHAB setup so I can control it through the app or include it in my sitemaps.

My initial idea is to use a battery-powered button switch, maybe something like an emergency call button, and have it communicate with OpenHAB. From there, I’d need to figure out how to control the microphone through IOTLink. I’ve got a Raspberry Pi 3 running OpenHAB with a MySensors radio gateway, but I’m open to adding Z-wave or Zigbee if needed. I have some hardware experience, so building something from scratch is an option, but I’d prefer to find an aesthetically pleasing solution that’s easy to modify.

I realize this might not be purely OpenHAB-related, but any ideas or tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for your help!
