WS2812b Display Integration for Smart Home Alerts

Hi everyone,

I’ve been diving into my Homematic setup lately and have been exploring some exciting new possibilities. I’ve got this 512-pixel WS2812b display that I’ve been using in my bar, but now that I’m renovating the space, I thought it’d be fun to repurpose it in the living room. The idea is to have the display show alerts or notifications when certain events happen in my smart home—like when the doorbell rings or a motion sensor triggers. For example, when someone rings the bell, I’d love to have a ‘DingDong’ text scroll across the display.

I’ve only used this display with PC-based software before, so I’m not entirely sure how to integrate it with my Homematic setup. Has anyone here managed to do something similar? I came across a couple of threads that mention using a WeMos D1 mini and some custom scripts, which is super interesting. I’ve already ordered the WeMos, so I’m eager to give it a shot!

Would love to hear if anyone has experience with this or any tips to get started. Thanks in advance for your insights!

Cheers,
